Finding Gratitude in Hard Seasons: Heart full of Real Talk

Hey y’all, it’s your girl from Carolina Cupboard, coming at you with a heart full of real talk. If you know me, you know I’m all about sunshine, silly giggles, and finding joy in the little things, whether it’s whipping up a fresh strawberry cake or perfecting that Charleston glow with a bright bold lip stick. But lately? Life’s been heavy, and I want to share my heart with yall!

Right now, I’m STILL in a wheelchair, dealing with pain that just won’t quit. A car crushed my leg, and it’s turned my world upside down. Before this, I was tucking my sweet boys into bed, chasing them around with giggles, hitting the gym three times a week, and serving at church with a smile & Going to bible study on Saturdays. I was getting my nails done, sleeping in my own bed, taking showers without help, and pouring love into a job that lifted me up. Now, those things feel like a distant memory. I tell my foot to move, and it either ignores me or responds slow & painful! It’s hard, y’all. Really hard.

At first, I held tight to my sunny outlook, trying to keep that spark of positivity alive. But as the days stretch on with little progress, it’s hard to stay bright. All I want is to walk again, to feel like me again. And y’all, the phone calls and texts keep pouring in…. bless everyone’s hearts for checking on me. I’ve never been great at keeping up with messages; they stress me out something fierce! I’ll set a 10-minute timer to reply, pouring my heart into each one because listen I’m not a one-line texter like my daddy, who’d just send a thumbs up and call it a day. But the replies keep coming, and it feels like a chore that never ends. Worse, I don’t have exciting updates to share, and that weighs heavy on my heart.

But here’s where I’m trying to shift my heart. I’ve been reading Live by Sadie Robertson, one of my favorite Christian speakers she’s just so relatable, like a friend you’d sip sweet tea with on the front porch. Sadie talks about being thankful for the little things, especially in seasons of WAITING. That hit me deep. Even in this hard season, I’ve got so much to be grateful for: the most amazing husband who’s my rock, two healthy, precious boys who fill my days with love, a roof over my head, and a family, friends, and a great church community that wraps me in support. These are my blessings, my anchors, and I’m holding tight to them.

So, if you’re going through your own storm whether it’s big or small I want you to pause and remind you to lean on God and look for the little things you’re grateful for. Maybe it’s a warm cup of coffee in the morning, a kind word from a friend, or the way the sun sets over the palmetto trees. Those small moments are gifts, and they can carry you through.

I’m not gonna sugarcoat it yall this season is the hardest YET, and I’m still finding my way. But I’m choosing to trust God’s timing and hold fast to His promises. If you’re in a waiting season too, let’s encourage each other. Drop a comment below and share one little thing you’re thankful for today…..I’d love to hear it. And if you feel like it, say a prayer for me as I keep pushing to walk again. Your support means the world.

Thank you for letting me be real with y’all. Keep shining, keep praying, and let’s find that Southern glow together, even in the weathered storm!

Y’all, I just have to share something special! My dear friend Gwen sent me the sweetest scripture, and it lit up my whole day! This woman is an absolute gem, a true sweetheart with a heart of gold. Can I just pause and say how thankful I am for her? Without Gwen and her daughter, Anita’s, love and light, my world would be a whole lot cloudier. They’re a blessing, and I’m so grateful God put them in my life! (I’m going to see if she will let me post a photo, we shall see hehe) Anyway, here it is!

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your request to God.” Philippians 4:6 NIV

With all my love,

Jules I’m thankful for our friendship! Sitting on the couch eating ice cream while the kids run around. I love sharing our hard stuff and then always looking to the Lord for our help that he will always give us. Love you girl!
