My faith journey began in the charming Holly Hill Methodist Church, a beautiful, small sanctuary where I spent my childhood Sundays. My grandparents played a key role, encouraging me to attend and join the choir, where I sang with joy and felt the warmth of community. Still, as a young girl, I was mostly going through the motions, believing in God but not yet knowing Him personally.
Early Mentors in Faith
Two special people shaped my early faith: my Uncle Irvin and my grandmother’s sister, whom I call Mimi. Uncle Irvin, one of my favorite people, shared stories of Jesus and the Bible with me from a young age. His challenge to read the Bible and memorize John 3:16 left a lasting impact, and his friendship, filled with big belly laugh moments, has been a blessing. Mimi, the sweetest and most loving great-aunt imaginable, also guided me toward God, alongside her two wonderful daughters, Caro & Davii, who nurtured my faith with their kindness. I’m deeply grateful for their influence, which gave me the foundation to know God.
Finding God at Seacoast
My journey deepened when I met my incredible husband, Cesar, who invited me to Seacoast, a vibrant non denominational church, on our very first meeting. There, I surrendered my heart to God, anchoring my life in His guidance. Through life’s storms, I’ve learned to quiet the noise and listen for His voice a faithful presence that never fails.
Supporting Family Through Loss
After my father’s passing, my aging grandparents needed help returning to Holly Hill Methodist, and Cesar, ever selfless, stepped up without hesitation. His servant’s heart, loving my family as his own, always putting others first, and never complaining, has been a true inspiration. He’s a godly role model, and I’m so thankful our boys have such a remarkable father. At Holly Hill, the new minister’s kindness and powerful sermons uplifted us during that difficult season. Yet, as one of the few younger families, we struggled to connect, leading us back to Seacoast, where our church community grounded us in faith and love.
Trusting God’s New Path
Leaving Seacoast was one of our toughest challenges when we felt God calling us to a new chapter. We loved our farm, family, church, friends, and community, but we realized it wasn’t our decision, it was His. Initially, we prayed for things to work in South Carolina, but we were praying wrong.
Embracing a New Church Home
We shifted our prayers, asking God to open a door and give us the strength to walk through it. Finally, that’s when we found our current church. Fun fact: we researched churches online, watched services, and even flew out to meet the staff and members before moving. That’s how vital it is to center our lives on God. Our new church family has shown up for us countless times, reminding us of God’s precious love, sweeter than sweet tea on a summer day.
A Call to Seek God’s Love
I challenge you: if you don’t know God, reach out to someone who does. If a church has hurt you, know that the church isn’t God! He wants you to feel love and joy. Keep searching for the right fit, like my momma says, “If at first you don’t succeed try try AGAIN!” Join a life group or small group to build connections. Having people to walk through life with makes all the difference. I’m grateful every day for this journey, from the early lessons of Uncle Irvin, Mimi, and my grandparents to the vibrant community that surrounds us now.
Psalm 37:5 – “Commit your way to the Lord; trust in Him, and He will act.”
