Quick, Simple, Easy, Classic Southern 5-Ingredient Peach Cobbler

My Cherished Summer Days at McCurry Orchards

As May rolls around the corner, I always think of the sweetest pastime from my childhood summers at McCurry Peach Orchards. There’s something magical about a recipe that’s been passed down through generations, each bite carrying the warmth of family and tradition.

This peach cobbler recipe, born in the heart of McCurry Peach Orchards, is just that a simple, six ingredient masterpiece that’s been a cherished part of my family for decades. Originating with my great-grandparents and perfected by my grandparents, this cobbler is a guaranteed crowd-pleaser at any gathering. It’s deceptively easy to make, yet so irresistibly delicious that you’ll want to dive in the moment it comes out of the oven.

Where this delightful Peach Cobbler Began

McCurry Peach Orchard wasn’t just a place it was magical, a piece of my childhood wrapped in the sweet scent of ripe peaches and dusty summer air. My grandfather took over the orchard from his father in law, and it became a family affair, with my whole family pitching in.

By the time I was six, I was right there along with my brother in the peach shed, sorting through baskets to pick out the bruised fruit, restocking frosty sodas, and wiping down jars of Vidalia onion hot sauce, honey, artichoke relish, and other homemade delights. I’d answer the phone with an upbeat “McCurry Orchards how may I help you?” and carry peach baskets to the front porch, where customers would stop by to sample our goods.

My grandmother, with her mischievous smile, would sneak me spoonfuls of pistachio ice cream, her ultimate favorite, whispering, “Don’t tell your grandfather!” as we giggled like co-conspirators.

Those summer days were filled with small, sweet moments: sweeping the shed, mopping the floors, and crafting hand-drawn signs with prices in my wobbly six-year-old handwriting. Lunchtime was a highlight, when my grandfather would pile us into the car for a trip to one of the only spots in town, Cracker Barrel in Santee, SC or Wendy’s. I’m not sure if they loved the food or just the ritual, but those outings felt like grand adventures.

McCurry Peach Orchards is more than an orchard; it’s where my heart once lived, in the sticky juice of fresh peaches and the laughter and love of family and friends. This peach cobbler recipe captures that exact spirit….simple, soul-warming, and timeless. Try it, and I promise you’ll taste the love woven into every bite.

Notes

  • Aim for a beautifully golden crust, rich and inviting, but not so dark that it risks burning, nor so pale that it remains gooey.
